Give Reward to commentators – Use ‘NoFollow Free’ WP Plugin

In one of my previous post, i mentioned about CommentLuv Plugin which pulls the title of the commentators blogs latest post and places its link just below the comment.

Well the above plugin is rewarding/benefitting the commentator because, i am helping in giving some traffic and providing backlinks. But the backlink will be useful only if it is “NoFollow Free”.

What is nofollow?
nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of search engine spam, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring in the first place.

Read more on this here.

Why should we use NoFollowFree Plugin?
Wordpress by default, just like other blogging platforms, has automatically adds the “nofollow” tag to all links from user generated content such as comments and trackbacks.

Why the U Comment, I Follow Badge?
U COMMENT I FOLLOW
It’s one way to let your readers know that when they leave comments, they’re going to get link love. Sure, you can write a few post about it and even remind readers from time to time. But many will not see it. But the badge, that stays and your readers can see it.

What’s next step?
From now on, i want to reward my commentators by giving them a backlink so, that google can follow and there by enhance the page rank.

Right now all urls in the comment section are “NoFollow Free” :)

  15. Nihar says:

    WatchUOnline,

    I remove nofollow only if a commentator leaves more than 5 comments.

    So, if you properly check you will see for some comments nofollow is removed.

  16. Wade Briggs says:

    It’s definitely a good way to increase your blog’s volume of quality comments but it will almost definitely increase the volume of low quality comments as well…As long as you moderate it though and take the time to filter out the garbage it can really benefit your website. In fact, people will start searching for your blog using “nofollow” as one of their search keyword terms. You’ll also get your blog listed in nofollow directories. So, you’ll get more comment content and more traffic.

  17. [...] I have installed NoFollow Free Plug-in. If you leave more than 5 comments on my blog, nofollow tag is removed and you will get a backlink. 18. Nihar says:

    @Wade,

    you are right. I need to figure out which comment is authentic and which one is intentional to just have their link here and moderate it.

  19. Maybe I should turn off ‘nofollow’ after a certain no. of comments as well. I have it dofollow even on the first count. Hmmm something to ponder over the weekend…

  20. Wade Briggs says:

    I’m not sure if I believe in the whole “minimum of 5 comments” for a nofollow free listing. This may still deter a lot of legitimate commentors from making quality first posts. Who knows, maybe not though.

  21. @Wade: I guess it really depends on what’s the intention of commenting in the first place. Are they a legitimate commentor making a quality commentary or someone chasing the backlink? The former doesn’t really care whether the blog is dofollow or otherwise while the latter cares for it that much.

    Just my two…

  22. Wade Briggs says:

    But why can’t a person who is “chasing the backlink” also make quality commentary? :)

  23. Nihar says:

    @Wade, @Blog for beginners,

    Yes, If a person wants a backlink he/she can make 5 quality comments and get a back link :)

  24. @Wade: You certainly have your point and yes, they can too..I suppose you belong to that group of people :-)

  25. Wade Briggs says:

    I definitely do belong to that group of people (although it has evolved from that on this blog) but I just hope that the general consensus within the blog world begins to shift from having a generally negative point of view on this topic to a more encouraging, positive view of it.

  26. Moolahking says:

    I think i’m quite confused with this NoFollow or DoFollow things.

    What’s the purpose of having these thing in our blog?

    Thanks for your attention.

    Moolahkings last blog post..Google Adwords Ads Now Free?

    • Nihar says:

      @Moolahking, DoFollow means when spiders read this page, they will also follow the links in the comment section.

      NoFollow is opposite of dofollow.

  27. Wade Briggs says:

    No Follow is basically a tag that you can add to any links within your website. What this is intended to do is to tell a search engine crawler like Google Bot to not follow (or crawl) the link on your site with the “nofollow” tag. A lot of blogs today have adapted this tag to be used on all of links that commentors leave on their blogs to dissuade people from comment spamming them.

    I’m not sure if this is clear enough for you, hopefully it helps.

  28. Nihar says:

    @wade good explanation.

  29. @Wade: Couldn’t have said it better myself…

  30. Well, dofollow blogs get popular very quickly. :D I’m gonna remove nofollow from my blog soon. :)

      @Free Magazines, I am not sure about it. Most of the internet users are confused.

  38. I have to agree, offering these little incentives drastically improves the number of comments you may get. Although it may affect your PR, if you let to many pointless comments slip.
