I have got an important news for all Windows XP and Office 2003 users. It is not a good news who love Windows XP. I am also in that list.

On April 14, 2009, Microsoft has stopped mainstream support for Windows XP and Office 2003. Now both the products are moved to Extended support phase, which will last for the next five years.

These products will continue to be supported until 2014. I guess they will stop fixing the bugs and thereby less Microsoft updates for these two products. They will give emergency updates to fix the security holes to avoid security breach or virus attacks.

This applies to the following Windows XP editions:

  • Windows XP Home
  • Windows XP Pro 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Windows XP Media Center Edition
  • Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

For me personally, this is a bad news. I am still using Windows XP.

This is bad news. Fortunately I only have my notebook on Windows XP. My other machine I have moved to Ubuntu. I feel that Microsoft should have got the problems with Vista fixed before they took this step. There is a plus side to this though, there should be less of those irritating updates.
