Wishing you a Very Happy Independence Day, 2009
Every year this day we feel grateful for having the freedom to breath in a free nation. We feel proud about our glorious past and the varied cultures that stand as one in times of adversity. We remember that we are diverse yet united. Then, why not remind ourselves every day of the year that we too are responsible citizens of a great country and we can do our bit of keeping it clean, green and safe. There are so many things we could do irrespective of where we live and what we do. We need not be in metropolitan cities to make marked changes or we need not be in the civil services to do something for the country. And neither do we have to be political leaders or social reformers. Small things can lead to bigger changes. We could continue to lead our lives and yet create a better world. Be it keeping our vehicles dirt and pollution-free or be it keeping our localities clean. Voting for the right candidate in the elections is also a major responsibility.
So, while we have a colorful celebration at our schools, colleges and offices; lets not forget the spirit behind it all. Like it is said “Actions speak louder that words”, let all the speeches, enthusiasm and preachings turn to action. We will have to strive and work on it together in as many ways as possible. It may be a little strenuous but not difficult. Let there be cleanliness, happiness and peace around us.
