Recently, Ubuntu 11.10 code-named “Oneiric Ocelot” Alpha 1 version was released. Now they have come up with some more new changes and bug fixes and released Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 2 and Download Links are available. Ubuntu 11.10 Final Version will be released in October 2011.

Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 2 Changes

Use of LightDM instead of GDM
includes new themes
uses version 3.0 (rc5) Linux kernel
includes GNOME 3.0 desktop and Unity atop
Synaptic Package Manager has been removed
Firefox 5 and Thunderbird 5 is included
default Ubuntu GTK themes will use GTK3

, accompanied by a variety of mind blowing themes. The main advantage of LightDM over GDM is that it is very light weight and much faster. Oneiric Ocelot Alpha 2 version is based on the upcoming version 3.0 (rc5) Linux kernel and ships with GNOME 3.0 desktop, with the latest development build of Unity atop
