Open your websites faster using Keyboard Hotkeys – “SiteLauncher” (a Firefox Add-on)

Most of us bookmark websites so that we can jump on to the website quickly. But, what if you have organized your bookmarks that have 10-20 categories each having 10-20 websites in it.

The time taken to browse through the bookmarks menu and select a particular website is more than typing the website address.

SiteLauncheris a Firefox add-on which can turn your bookmarks into shortcuts. Site Launcher lets you replace your bookmarks toolbar with a window of links that can be opened using a simple keyboard shortcut. It gives you a super-quick way to open your favorite websites that you use often throughout the day by using only your keyboard. One special hotkey brings up the Launcher (shown below), followed by a unique key to launch a site. You pick which sites you want on the list, and a one-letter keyboard shortcut is given to each.

For example, i have added these sites – Google, Gmail, NiharsWorld, and IBNLive.com to SiteLauncher – what sites to include is entirely up to you. CTRL + SPACE will popup the transparent window with links. Then you just need to type shortcut key to launch the website. Check my list below.

How to Open UIF Files?

Recently, i downloaded a file with an extension .UIF. I have not encountered this extension before. I did some search and google and found about UIF extension. Before letting you know how to open UIF file, i would like to give some information about UIF File.

UIF, or Universal Image Format, is an image format for backing up to CD/DVD. A UIF file is actually a MagicISO CD/DVD image file. To view it contents, the UIF file has to be mounted. It is an image file like ISO which is most common format.

You will find many formats for creating images files of CD/DVDs. UIF is better than other format because of its better encryption and also has better compression.

MagicISO is the software which can open UIF File. It is not a free software. Download a trial version. The restriction with trial version is that you can only open UIF files upto 300 MB.

Gmail can be skinned with colors and themes!

Most of us might have been observed that Gmail has introduced themes to get a new look to Gmail. I think most of them are now bored of Gmail with same old look (sky blue color).

You can now switch to one of the 30 themes available through the Themes settings.

I was surprised to see this yesterday evening when i opened my mail box.

You can change your Gmail themes through your Settings page:

  • Just look on the top right corner. you will see Themes link.
  • Select one of the themes to change the look of your Gmail
