How to Find Broken Links, Missing Titles, Image alt text with Xenu’s Link Sleuth tool

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Jonny from Jonnys Blog left a comment few days back on my Previous Post Broken Links Remover – A must Wordpress Plugin. He mentioned a freeware tool that can check all the broken links of any website. I took a look at that freeware software. It is a great tool to use for all the webmasters.

Xenu’s Link Sleuth is a freeware tool to check Broken Links of your website. It uses multi-threading to scan broken links. Hence, it is very fast compared to any other link checking software. Given the URL of the website, It can come up with all the broken links withe the details like title, type, size etc. It does all this pretty quickly.

How to use Xenu’s Link Sleuth

  1. Download and install the program
  2. Run the program and enter the URL of the website which you want to check
  3. Now it will check for all links like normal links, images, backgrounds, style sheets, scripts and java applets.

Turn iPhone / iPod Touch into a Wireless HiFi Stereo Headphone

Monday, May 11th, 2009

If you are staying in a big family, then you would have definitely faced this problem. You want to listen to music or watch a movie on your PC / laptop. But you also want that nobody in your family should be disturbed. What do you do then?

I have purchased a Wireless Headphone. But it is costly.

I have found another way that can be a cheaper option, if you already have iPhone or iPod Touch.

AudioIn – WiFi wireless headphone for iPhone/iPod Touch

Turn iPod Touch or iPhone to Wireless Headphone

Turn iPod Touch or iPhone to Wireless Headphone

AudioIn can turn your iPhone / iPod Touch into a wireless HiFi stereo headphone.

AudioIn comes with free AudioServer with which you can transmit the non-DRM audio output from any application running on Windows Vista (i.e. Windows Media Player, Media Center, and iTunes etc.) wirelessly to iPhone/iPod Touch. This way you can be away from your PC / laptop but can still listen to your music on your iPhone/iPod

The AudioServer application captures the audio output from any running applications and transmits that captured audio wirelessly to AudioIn on your iPhone/iPod Touch. AudioServer application should be running on your iPod Touch or iPhone.

Requirements for AudioIn

  1. iPhone or iPod Touch with firmware version 2.2.1.
  2. iPhone 3G has to switch to WiFi mode.
  3. Any PC or laptop running Vista (all version).
  4. iPhone/iPod Touch and the the AudioReceiver PC must be on the same subnet.
  5. The AudioServer application must be downloaded and installed on your PC.

They are providing a free version of software that can be downloaded. Download and try it, if you like it then go for full version by purchasing it. For more details, Click here

I faced problems setting up AudioIn because my laptop doesn’t have Stereo Mix under Recording option. If you face the same problem, then check these below two posts:

How to Find and Remove Duplicate Images or Pictures from your PC

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Most of us save Images, Pictures, Wallpapers in our PC from the Internet, CD’s, Friend’s PC or photos taken from our Digital Camera. Most of us love to have a collection of beautiful images, pictures in any format like jpeg, bmp, gif or any other extension. After some days, months and years, your hard drive will have hundreds and thousands of images. And definitely there might be duplicate ones lying around on your drives eating up your hard disk space.

Today, i want to share a tool that i am using from last 4-5 years. With this tool, you can remove the duplicate pictures.

The tool is DupDetector, its a free ware. Click DupDetector to download it.

Below are the screen shots that show you the steps to find and remove duplicate images/pictures:

  1. First select the method for comparing images/pictures from the method tab.
  2. DupDetector - the method for comparing images from the method tab

  3. Click on Get data tab and click on Open… button and select the folder that contains all the images that you want to compare and then click Build.. button. The building of data file takes some time, so have a cup of tea or coffee and come back.
  4. DupDetector - Build the data file

  5. Click on Find dups tab and change the percentage if you want. I would recommend keep it as it is and proceed to next step.
  6. DupDetector - Find Duplicate Images

  7. Click on View dups tab and Click on Find dups button , It will show up all the duplicate images that are lying on your drive. Now Simply choose one out of the two duplicate images to remove it. The removed files will be moved to recycle bin. Thats it…
  8. DupDetector - Compare and Delete duplicate images

In this way, i have removed a lot of duplicate images/pictures and got back hard disk space that was taken up by duplicate images.

Hope you all find it useful. Pour in with your feedback by posting comments.

How to download movies, software, tv shows and many more using Torrents

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Today, i am going tell what is torrent all about and a guide to download files using Torrents.

What is Torrent ?

Torrent is also called as BitTorrent. Torrent is a technology that is used to distribute large amounts of data widely without incurring the corresponding consumption in costly server and bandwidth resources. It is a Peer to Peer P2P technology.
More on this at Torrent

More explanation to non-techies:

As i said before, Torrent is P2P technology. It enables us to share files with our peers. Suppose A has a file and wants to share it with others. Using Torrents, B can download the file from A’s computer. Now, if C wants to download it, he can do it from A and B as B has the file too. Now if another user D wants to download it, he can do it from A, B and C. Even if A stops sharing it (this can happen when A goes off from the network, switches off his computer or intentionally wants to stop sharing it), D can still download it from B and C.
