VLC is my favorite player. The reason is simple. It can play almost all video formats. If you’ve ever struggled to play a file you downloaded from the Web. It means you didn’t try opening it in VideoLan’s VLC media player, a free, hugely popular, and open-source media player. VLC can open and play anything.

VideoLAN has released VLC media player 0.9.2.

This new version of VLC comes with a new interface. It will now also support many new codecs and protocols.

Interface – A new interface module based on the Qt toolkit has been added to VLC.

This new interface module has a few improvements on the old one:

• Simplified settings and dialogs
• Media library integration
• Album art displaying and metadata editing
• Live activation of Video and audio filters
• Basic encoding profiles
• Multiple start modes (classic, enhanced and minimalist)
• System tray icon and minimizing
• Fullscreen controller

Video Playback – new protocols, new codecs, new demuxers and many bug-fixes
