Lots of Windows users around the globe have started using Windows 7, but there also lots of users who might be using Hacked or Cracked Windows 7.

I mean those who have installed Illegitimate version of Windows 7 using a crack or activator.

Beware!!!

Microsoft is going to release a new Microsoft Update for Windows 7. This update is a Windows 7’s built-in activation and validation system.

This is a step to reduce the piracy and counterfeit of their Product.

Keep watching for a Windows Update with title “Update for Microsoft Windows (KB971033)”. It will be rolled out in Late February. KB971033 can also be downloaded from Microsoft Update Center starting from February 17th, 2010

Microsoft’s KB971022 update will be able to validate and detect 70 known exploits on your system.

According to Genuine Windows blog,

Windows Activation Technologies Update for Windows 7 will be able detect more than 70 known and potentially dangerous activation cracks or exploits. Activation exploits are sometimes called “hacks”, and attempt to bypass or compromise Windows’ activation technologies.

How KB971033 update will work:

Once installed, the Update protects customers by identifying known activation exploits that may affect their PC experience. If any activation exploits are found, Windows will alert the customer and offer options for resolving the issue – in many cases, with just a few clicks. Machines running genuine Windows 7 software with no activation exploits will see nothing – the update runs quietly in the background protecting your system. If Windows 7 is non-genuine, the notifications built into Windows 7 will inform the customer that Windows is not genuine by displaying informational dialog boxes with options for the customer to either get more information, or acquire genuine Windows. The desktop wallpaper will be switched to a plain desktop (all of the customer’s desktop icons, gadgets, or pinned applications stay in place). Periodic reminders and a persistent desktop watermark act as further alerts to the customer.

Users who are using Hacked or Cracked Windows 7 need not worry as this, KB971033 Windows Activation Technologies update is an optional update.

So, if a smart windows users can figure out the update by looking at the Microsoft Update name and decide not to install can still keep using Illegitimate copy of Windows 7

Few days back, I mentioned about the Quick Launch Bar Missing in Windows 7 and How to add it.

I have found one more thing missing in Windows 7 that really annoys me. This time it is “Windows 7 Network Icon Animation Activity in System Tray”.

What is Network Icon Animation Activity?

Most of the windows users know about Network Icon that sits in the System Tray. In Windows XP or Windows Vista, the Network Icon has two computers and gives you animation which tells you the packet movement on the network. If you have only one Computer lighting up and other doesn’t then you can tell that there is some problem with your Internet or LAN connectivity.

The above functionality is called Network Icon Animation Activity.

It is sad that Windows 7 Network Icon doesn’t provide this simple animation and it is annoying for most of the Windows 7 Users who sometimes depend on the Network Icon Animation to know how their Network or Internet is working.

Solution to “BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart” Error while Trying to Boot Windows 7

Yesterday, i installed Windows 7 Operating System on my Desktop Computer using Windows 7 DVD. I created Windows 7 DVD using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. The installation was quick and everything went fine.

After installation completed, I installed Windows 7 Drivers. As always, after installing any drivers we need to restart the PC.

I was surprised to see an error while my Desktop computer was booting up.

BOOTMGR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

The above error came up after installing Windows 7. I was surprised to see this. My initial reaction was “Whether my Hard Drive is showing signs of wear and tear”.

I tried pressing “Ctrl+Alt+Del” and rebooted the PC, but no success end up with the same error message.

I then used my Lappy to find out the solution to BOOTMGR is missing Error in Windows 7 in Google.

I was happy to find the solution and solve the issue. I am now sharing the same with you all.

Solution to BOOTMGR is missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart Error in Windows 7

First of all, Let me tell you the cause of this. If you have two hard Drives connected to your PC and you tried to Install Windows 7 on Secondary IDE or Secondary SATA. It will write the BOOTMGR on primary Harddrive.

I was doing the same thing. I installed Windows 7 on Hard Drive that was connected on Secondary IDE.

Do the following to resolve BOOTMGR is missing in Windows 7

Take Windows 7 DVD or Windows 7 USB and boot your computer with it. Press a key when you are prompted to boot PC with Windows 7 DVD or USB
When Windows 7 completes loading Setup Files. It will ask you to select the language, time and currency. Select it and Click Next
On the next screen, you will see Install Now. But, below you will see “Repair your computer”. Select that.
Now Windows 7 will try to check for the problems in Windows 7, before that it will search for Windows 7 Installation Drive
After few seconds or minutes, it will show the problems and you should see the Problem related to Boot
It will repair the Boot Record by placing the BOOTMGR properly.

Follow the above steps, i am sure you will be able to resolve the BOOTMGR is missing issue.

Download Windows 7 RC – August 20 is the Last Day to get Windows 7 RC

Microsoft is providing Windows 7 RC for those who would want to try out the Release Candidate version of Windows 7.

I just want to remind you all that August 20th is the last day. If you are thinking of trying it, jump to the site and start the download immediately.

The official test release, Windows 7 RC, from Microsoft is currently available for download. As, the time ticks over to August 21. Windows RC download page will be removed from Microsoft site.

If you miss it, then you have to wait till October 22nd. Microsoft is planning to release Windows 7 Final on October 22nd.

The benefit of Release Candidate version over Final Release is RC Version will work till June 1st 2010 whereas Final Release version will be 30-day trail.

Guys here is a good news for all Mozilla Firefox fanatics. Firefox 3.7 will now have a Aero Glass look under Windows Vista and Windows 7. If you have used IE 8, you would know what Aero Glass makes your browser look.

The Aero Glass look can be seen in Firefox 3.7 because, it will support Aero theme for Firefox under Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Download Windows Vista and Server 2008 Service Pack 2

Yesterday, I got a Windows Update Notification on the system tray. Upon checking, i found that it is an update for Windows Vista Service Pack 2. I immediately started to download it.

Microsoft has released Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2. This service pack will add more stability, more security and will contain bug fixes.

It took around 1-2 hours to download. After that, it took 10-15 minutes to get installed.

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Installation has 3 stages. After completion of two stages, the computer restarted and the third stage was completed upon booting up.

If you have Windows Vista or Server 2008 running on your PC or Laptop, I recommend you to run Windows Update and install Service Pack 2.

Microsoft stops Main Stream Support for Windows XP & Office 2003

I have got an important news for all Windows XP and Office 2003 users. It is not a good news who love Windows XP. I am also in that list.

On April 14, 2009, Microsoft has stopped mainstream support for Windows XP and Office 2003. Now both the products are moved to Extended support phase, which will last for the next five years.

These products will continue to be supported until 2014. I guess they will stop fixing the bugs and thereby less Microsoft updates for these two products. They will give emergency updates to fix the security holes to avoid security breach or virus attacks.

This applies to the following Windows XP editions:

Windows XP Home
Windows XP Pro 32-bit and 64-bit
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

For me personally, this is a bad news. I am still using Windows XP.

Few days back, I was contacted by a person who is working for CHENGDU YIWO Tech Development Co., Ltd who asked me to do a Review of Easeus Partition Manager 3.0.

Do you know what was the coincidence? I have used this software before. So, it makes my job easier.

I have been using Partition Managers from last 7-8 years. Starting from Fdisk (Dos utility), PowerQuest’s Partition Magic (now Symantec Partition Magic), Paragon Partition Manager and many more. I liked Partition Magic and used for lot of years. Last year, i happened to see this new Partition Manager called Easeus Partition Manager.

Easeus Partition Manager 3.0 Review

EASEUS Partition Manager 3.0 is basically a software to manage partitions on your PC/Laptops. It supports Windows XP 32 bit, Vista 32 bit, 2000 Professional. It has got a friendly GUI. You can move, resize, create and delete partitions within minutes.

If you click Resize Partition, You will see a window popup with a slider for adjusting the drive volume sizes. You can use either slider or the text box to input the partition size and then Hit OK to resize.

The Create feature will allow you format and label the partition in the newly-created empty space. While running, EPM will keeps you informed of the progress of the overall task, as well as the multiple steps it takes in partitioning your drive. A helpful color-key lives in the status bar at the bottom, divvying up drives by type as well as allocation use.

There are other features as well like partition copying, a boot disk creator, a Properties option that will tell you everything from the physical geometry of the drive to the serial number, drive letter swapping, and password protection.

I liked this tool compared to other tools. The installation file is not too big. The interface is simple and easy to use. The performance is also good.

Muziic – New Music Player for YouTube

Muziic is a new Music Player developed by David Nelson and Mark Nelson. David is just 15 years old and Mark Nelson is his father.

You may be thinking So what? There are a lot of Music Player software on the Web.

Before you start thinking, let me tell you that this is different from other usual Music Players.

As you all know, YouTube is a free website where you can upload, share and view videos. This Music Player can listen to the audio of any YouTube video you want. Isn’t it great? Whenever i want to hear to some songs, i go to YouTube and type the song name and listen to the song. I don’t watch it.

But using this music player you don’t have to browse through YouTube web-site. You can just select any song of your choice and listen it.

Muziic is a music player and converter.

You can even create playlists of streaming-audio files from YouTube.

Wait… Does Muziic violate You Tube terms of use? Even i am not sure. I think there are lot of opinions floating around on the web.

I have downloaded and installed it. When you start Muziic player, it is slow because it connects to the YouTube service. There is a search box where you can search for any songs or any video. After it list out the results, just click on the plus sign next to songs that are displayed.

There are controls like any other music player. With those controls you can stop, play, pause, skip to next or previous songs. There is also a Playlist feature. You can save the playlist for future use.

I liked it very much. It works well but takes some memory. You need not bother if you have enough memory.

As i mentioned above, Muziic Player has also got a converter/encoder. You can convert the files and save it as MP3 File.

How to set CapsLock, NumLock and ScrollLock Keys On/Off using Windows Registry Tweak

Most of the Windows users have preference on whether “CapsLock”, “NumLock” or “ScrollLock” keys should be turned on or off after Windows has started.

I prefer NumLock to be in On status and CapsLock in Off status after windows has completed started.

What if your preference is not same as the default settings that Windows? Below is the tip by which you can do changes in Windows Registry to permanently change the settings according to your preference!

Below are the steps to change the ON/OFF Status of CapsLock, NumLock and ScrollLock Keys:

Please take backup of Registry before making any changes!

Start->Run… then, Type “regedit” without quotes and press Enter.
It will open Windows Registry. Now navigated to the following key based on your choice:
To change the setting for currently logged in user:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard

To change the setting for all users:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard
Look for “InitialKeyboardIndicators” string on the right side pane and change the value between 0 to 7 based on your choice (Check below for the definition of each numeric number):
0 – Turn all indicators Off (NumLock, CapsLock, ScrollLock)
1 – Turn CapsLock On
2 – Turn NumLock On
3 – Turn CapsLock and NumLock On
4 – Turn ScrollLock On
5 – Turn CapsLock and ScrollLock On
6 – Turn NumLock and ScrollLock On
7 – Turn all indicators On (NumLock, CapsLock, ScrollLock)

After you change the value. Close Registry Editor and restart the system and see the change!

How to Launch Multiple Apps with a Single Click – Lacuna Launcher

I think most of you do the same as me. After i boot my PC, I always launch a set of applications. But opening one by one will be a slow process. What if you wish to launch all applications at one go with a single click?

Lacuna Launcher is the free program that allows you to open any number of applications or files with a single click. This can be done by putting all list of files you want to open in a file called “list.txt” which comes with this utility. Lacuna Launcher will then read the list.txt file and start opening all the applications listed in it. The list in the list.txt can include applications (.exe), shortcuts (.lnk), Internet shortcuts (.url), images, music, movies, anything that is a file on your system that you wish to open.

The utility does not require any installation. It includes a list.txt file where the list of applications to be launched are written. You have to give the complete path of the file to be launched one application per line. When you want to open the applications, double click the file named II.exe included in the zip file.

You can also use command line parameters to have more control on the way you want to launch the applications. You can even set the delay and timing of the launches and can also include a small break after every launch.

It is a great utility which can help you. It is a freeware and works in Windows 95/98/2000/Me/XP.
