Today, i am going tell what is torrent all about and a guide to download files using Torrents.
What is Torrent ?
Torrent is also called as BitTorrent. Torrent is a technology that is used to distribute large amounts of data widely without incurring the corresponding consumption in costly server and bandwidth resources. It is a Peer to Peer P2P technology.

More explanation to non-techies:
As i said before, Torrent is P2P technology. It enables us to share files with our peers. Suppose A has a file and wants to share it with others. Using Torrents, B can download the file from A's computer. Now, if C wants to download it, he can do it from A and B as B has the file too. Now if another user D wants to download it, he can do it from A, B and C. Even if A stops sharing it (this can happen when A goes off from the network, switches off his computer or intentionally wants to stop sharing it), D can still download it from B and C.
Torrent network is very vast. So normally, if you want to download a file that is popular, many users will be sharing it for you.
Terms used in Torrents world:
Seeding : Sharing is called seeding, From the above example. A,B,C are seeders.
Leaching : Downloading is called leaching. From the above example. D was leacher.
What is required to start downloading?
- Torrent Client Software
- A Torrent Search Engine Site
- A Torrent file. (A file with .torrent extension)
Below is the step by step guide to download stuff using torrents ( I have used BitComet torrent client software as an example):
Clients:
- BitComet ( My Favourite one) - BitComet
- uTorrent ( Most popular and light weight. needs very less memory. I tried, but i use Bit Comet) - uTorrent
- Bit tornado: - BitTornado
- Azureus - Azureus
Where to get torrent files:
Private torrent sites:
Private torrent are great place to download and share the stuff you need. You really get good speeds and get a variety of files.
The torrent sites that I visit are:
BwTorrents ( you find hindi/bollywood movies, Telugu/Tamil/many more regional movies, Cricket torrents too)
DesiTorrents ( you find hindi/bollywood movies, Telugu/Tamil/many more regional movies, Cricket torrents too )
Demonoid
All the above sites requires invites before you can create an account, if you guys need invites to bwtorrents or desitorrents or demonoid, post your email id, I will see if you can be invited in case I have an invite.

If you can check the comments carefully, i have actually invited few guys and some of them didn’t pick them

I found torrents very useful; but recently I noticed that the quality, speed and convenience of watching movies online has been great. I think Hindi movies take too long to download also, so I just watch the Hindi movies online.

I have lots of friends who get tons of stuff through Torrents. I get a little worried however about downloading viruses. I know lotf of virus creators will target torrent sites to unleash viruses upon everyone.

Invitations are hardly available for private torrent sites . But it is somewhat difficult to keep up the upload and download ratio .
