KB960714: Download a Fix for Internet Explorer 7 Security Issue
I think you might have heard that there is a major security flaw recently found by Guardian, which affected Internet Explorer 7, and all users with Internet Explorer 5 and 6.
As soon as this flaw was found, the IE Team started working on it and asked everyone to avoid using IE and use other browsers like Firefox, Chrome etc.
Microsoft has released an official patch to this critical security flaw for Internet Explorer 7 and is asking everyone to update as soon as possible or hackers might gain access to your computer.
This security update resolves a publicly disclosed vulnerability. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted Web page using Internet Explorer. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
Download the following Patches:
- Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition (KB960714)
- Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP x64 Edition (KB960714)

- Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition (KB960714)

My best advice to all… Don’t download this update and waste your internet bandwidth. Download Firefox, its worth for everything..
@Pavan, It depends on choice. I use firefox and IE both. Firefox takes up lot of memory. that is the only one thing i don’t like about it.
At least they were quick about it.
@Paul, yeah you are right. they were quick about it.
Downloaded automatically through updates. 😉
Luckily, I don’t use IE anymore. My first choice is FF and next is Chrome. IE is dying.
@Atniz, I know that lot of regular readers of this blog use FF or chrome. But, if you take the whole virtual world into picture. I think IE is still used by most of the users.
Firefox is definitely king, although it can become sluggish if you’ve got loads of plug ins installed. The security of Firefox is what gets me though. Never scandal such as this!
@Jacques Seoman, for me FF works fine. but the problem is it takes up lot of memory and doesn’t seem to release it when i close some tabs.
I agree with you. I just visited one of my cousin’s house and they all still use IE. They have never heard about FF. They only use Internet for chatting, download musics, and other social network like friendster, myspace, facebook etc. I think IE is for newbies.
@Atniz, that is what i am trying to tell to others that though FF is famous, there are lots of more ppl who don’t know about any other browser other than the default one which is IE.
No doubt, many prefer other browsers other than IE, me also included. I only use IE when doing online banking. I didn’t access my banking account recently because the security holes in IE. Now, I can get back to my online banking activity.
@Steve Yu, you are right but if you ask any novice user. He/she will not download any other browser. they will stick to the browser that comes with OS, which is IE.
