    India Railways rolled out India’s First AC Double Decker Train | Features and Photos of Double Decker Train

    Indian Railways achieved another mile stone, by introducing its First Indian AC Double Decker Trains. Indian Railways rolled out it’s first air-conditioned double-decker train in Kapurthala district of Jalandhar on 16th October, 2010.(Saturday). The New train is expected to run at Howrah-Dhanbad section of the Eastern Railways within the next 15 days.

    Features of India’s First Double Decker Train

    • Air Conditioned Train.
    • Contains Eight to Ten Coaches.
    • Capacity to carry 1,024 passengers.
    • Can run at a speed of 160 km per hour.
    • Have a carrying capacity of 128 passengers in comparison to 78 passengers in Shatabdi chair cars.

    • There are 54 seats each on the upper and lower decks besides 20 seats at both ends.
    • Coaches are fit to run up to the speed of 180 kilometer per hour.
    • Latest Design with, with stainless steel.
    • Electricity in these coaches will be supplied through power cars attached at both sides of the train.
    • It is designed with all kinds of safety features and will reduce impact on the passengers in case of an accident.

    RCF(Rail Coach Factory) in association with Research Development and Standard Organisation (RDSO) Lucknow finalised the design of the double-decker coaches and the first prototype was rolled out for oscillation trials within a record nine months.

    It has been made for low cost travelling. Each coach can accommodate 128 passengers up from 78 passengers per coach in Shatabdi. Rest of the facilities are similar to the ones that we provide in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains.

    The train will be introduced on stretches not more than 500 km long as there are no sleeper facilities yet, and will have a general speed of 160 kilometer per hour.The railway board plans to run the next double-decker train on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad section of Western Railway as per sources.
