    Karbonn S5 Titanium Review

    The Indian manufacturers are seriously entering the mid-range Android phone market. Micromax first blazed the trail with their Canvas HD models. These took the market by storm, and even ate into the market share of the big companies like Samsung.

    Other Indian companies like XOLO and Karbonn were quick to follow in the path of the Micromax Can HD’s success. They too released Android handsets with powerful features for a low price.

    Karbonn Titanium S5

    Following close on the heels of Micromax Canvas HD series, Karbonn released its own Titanium series, beginning with the S1. Recently, they released the Titanium S5, another Karbonn Android phone with high end features.

    Karbonn S5 Specifications

    Karbonn Titanium S5 is feature packed. It is powered by 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad core processor. It has 1GB memory and the internal storage is 4GB, expandable up to 32GB with the MicroSD card slot.

    This GSM dual SIM Karbonn Android phone can support 3G connectivity on SIM 1, while SIM 2 supports 2G networks. It supports WAP, EDGE and GPRS . For connectivity, the device has Bluetooth, WiFi and USB support.

    The Titanium S5 has a 5 inch IPS capacitive touchscreen with qHD resolutions. It has a 8mp rear camera and a 2mp front facing camera.

    S5 – Design

    All the recent smartphones follow the sleek ultra-thin look, and this one too follows suit, drawing design inspiration from Samsung Galaxy S4. The sleek, smooth candybar design with rounded edges makes this device elegant looking.

    It has 3 physical buttons at the front for home, tabs and return. Just above the screen is the front facing 2mp camera. The back of the device has the rear camera with LED flash, and also houses the speaker grills.

    S5 – Display

    The 5 inch display with a pixel density of 250 PPI and a qHD resolution ensures picture clarity even in bright lights. The light sensors work well to make automatic adjustments to ensure best display in different light conditions.

    The IPS panel reduces reflection, and the colors are vivid and bright. The display supports HD streaming and even has a 3D option.

    S5 – Camera

    The Karbonn Titanium S5 has a high resolution 8mp camera at the back. It comes with an LED flash, ensuring good pictures even in low light conditions. The shots produce images with vibrant colors and good picture clarity, both indoors and outdoors.

    The rear camera also supports video recording in high quality. It is great for capturing special moments and sharing with family and friends.

    The 2mp front camera is great for video calls, with acceptable picture clarity even in dim lights.

    S5 – Storage

    The built in storage of the Karbonn Android smartphone is 4 GB, with only 1.4GB available to the user. But, the device comes with a MicroSD card slot, allowing the storage capacity to be expanded up to 32GB.

    S5 – Call Quality

    The dual SIM device supports 3G in one SIM and 2G network in the other. The connectivity speed on 2G networks is around 256 kbps, while the speed on the 3G network can reach 7.2mbps (download).

    The call quality for voice and video calls are both good. The voice quality is crisp and clear, which does not suffer even when the loudspeaker is turned on. The video quality is also smooth and crisp.

    S5 – Battery

    The Karbonn Titanium S5 has a 2000 mAh battery. It supports 12 hours of talktime and 6 hours of video playback. While gaming, the device can run for 4 hours on full charge. This Karbonn Android smartphone supports around 8 hours of web surfing on a 3G connection, after a full recharge.

    The Karbonn Titanium S5 has really added weight to the already healthy and growing claims of Indian manufacturers on the Android Smartphone market. It has attractive specifications, backed by good performance. Priced at just around Rs. 12,000, it is a device that is set to challenge the hold of the MNCs on this market segment.
